While we attended this year’s Siinda Berlin conference, we couldn’t shy away from the topic of AI. Many of the riveting talks were about AI’s impact on various aspects of our lives, our business and local businesses, including the panel discussion our CEO, Itzik Levy, participated in.
At vcita, we understand the unique needs of small business providers, thanks to our years of experience in providing business management solutions for SMBs. We recently launched BizAI, our AI-powered personal business advisor for small businesses. BizAI utilizes business-specific data, along with external industry data and the latest market trends to help SMBs achieve their goals more efficiently and effectively. In developing and launching BizAI, we gained valuable insights into the AI needs of small businesses and the hurdles they encounter when adopting these technologies.
Ram Almog, Director of Product at vcita, authored a comprehensive report based on these findings: Getting AI into the hands of your SMB clients: Lessons learned from our AI launch. In the report, he shares strategies for how businesses that serve SMBs can help make AI more accessible and useful to their SMB customers. Read on for key takeaways from the report.
AI’s potential
Once a novelty, AI has quickly become a necessity. Many of today’s business owners already use AI to drive growth and streamline operations. AI tools can enhance decision-making, improve predictive analytics, and personalize customer experience.
Small businesses face unique challenges when it comes to marketing their services, attracting new customers, and managing costs. These obstacles, combined with SMBs’ often limited resources, highlight the need for a smart, strategic approach to stand out among the competition.
AI offers promising solutions to these challenges by helping small businesses optimize their pricing strategies, better allocate resources, and gain valuable insight into industry trends. AI can help small businesses analyze customer engagement to tailor their future outreach campaigns. Companies that serve small business clients may choose to use a ready-made platform with integrated AI tools to streamline SMBs’ AI adoption in an efficient, cost-effective way.
Key takeaways from vcita’s report:
AI adoption remains a challenge for small businesses
Despite the benefits, only 30% of small businesses currently use AI tools. The primary barriers to AI adoption are a lack of knowledge about AI’s potential, limited financial resources, risk aversion, and the perceived complexity of integrating new technologies.
Current use of AI by SMBs
According to a Vistage report, the most common applications for AI among SMBs included streamlining manual processes, enhancing customer engagement, expediting financial reporting, and improving the talent management process.
Overcoming adoption challenges
Several things can help SMBs get past these challenges:
- Education: Small business owners must understand how AI can benefit their business. This can be done through webinars, workshops, and sessions that offer practical training on using AI tools effectively.
- Seamless integration: AI tools should be easy to integrate into SMBs’ existing workflows and business management tools so they become a natural part of daily operations.
- Contextual assistance: AI support should be relevant and tailored to small businesses’ specific needs and situations. Intuitive follow-up prompts can help SMBs see the immediate impact AI can have on their operations.
- Hands-on practice: Small businesses can benefit from extended trial periods that allow them to explore AI functionalities extensively enough to gain confidence and promote adoption.
- Proactive guidance: Ongoing support can help small businesses along their AI adoption journey. This can help SMBs refine their interactions with AI to maximize its effectiveness.
How small businesses use BizAI
When we developed BizAI, feedback from our initial cohort gave us additional insights. We found that nearly 56% of SMBs use BizAI for positioning and pricing their services and products. 27.3% of small businesses use it to help them draft marketing materials. Other uses cited were generating operational text and researching the local competition.
BizAI requires deep follow-up interactions that go beyond the superficial prompts used in other platforms. These meaningful interactions resulted in average BizAI session lengths of 10 minutes or more. Thirty-two percent of BizAI users copied the chat’s answers to the clipboard, clearly showing their satisfaction with the results.
SMB owners must be taught how to leverage BizAI properly to maximize its potential. When trained properly in how to use BizAI, 43% of users returned within a week of their first usage. Finally, interaction with the tool should be directly embedded into SMBs’ existing processes to make it more accessible and intuitive.
AI use for SMBs going forward
As automation and personalization become standard, small businesses will have to adopt AI technologies to remain relevant and competitive. AI’s primary benefit for SMBs is increasing their productivity and enhancing cost savings. Small businesses have limited datasets (unlike large enterprises that have access to vast amounts of data). BizAI levels the playing field for SMBs by giving them valuable insight into industry trends and practices.
While small businesses face challenges related to AI adoption, these tools need not remain out of reach for them. vcita designed BizAI to provide small businesses with the appropriate, relevant support they need to unlock AI’s transformative potential, ultimately enhancing their productivity and success.
